
Skyhawk Volleyball Falls To Tennessee Tech In Season Finale

MARTIN, Tenn. – Dylan Mott registered 20 digs today for the University of Tennessee at Martin but the Skyhawks fell victim to a hot Tennessee Tech squad in a 3-0 setback (21-25, 19-25, 21-25) on the last day of the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball schedule.
A senior from Hendersonville, Tenn., Mott reached the 20-dig plateau for the 12th time this season and 32nd time in her storied career. She paced UT Martin in digs for the 24th time in 27 matches in 2024.
Kayla Bryant narrowly missed a double-double with a team-high nine kills and 11 digs for the Skyhawks. Kylie Surratt added eight kills and 12 digs while Katie Cruise (13 assists) and Kristin Phillips (five blocks) guided UT Martin in their respective categories.

Today's match featured 18 tie scores and nine lead changes – including eight ties and six leads swapped in the opening set. The Skyhawks jumped out to an 8-4 lead behind a pair of kills and a block assist from Addy Vaughn. The Golden Eagles (23-7, 12-6 OVC) went on a 13-5 run but back-to-back UT Martin points off Surratt kills helped the Skyhawks stay close. However, Tennessee Tech was able to hold on to take a 1-0 lead. Surratt (five kills) and Mott (eight digs) led the Skyhawks in the opening set.
UT Martin scored three of the first four points of the second set but the Golden Eagles soon went on a 9-1 surge. The Skyhawks responded with five unanswered points of their own as Phillips was responsible for two kills and a block assist during that run. UT Martin hung within striking distance for the remainder of the set but couldn't get any closer than three points for the remainder of the set. Mott managed seven digs while the trio of Phillips, Jenna Vallée and Vaughn each had two blocks apiece during the middle stanza.

After Tennessee Tech claimed a 14-6 advantage, UT Martin rallied for an 11-2 run – taking its first lead of the set after a service ace and kill from Hannah Haislip on back-to-back points. The back-and-forth action continued before the Golden Eagles broke a 20-20 tie with five of the final six points. Vallée (three kills on a .429 attack percentage) led the offense while Phillips' three swats keyed the Skyhawk defense in the final set.
UT Martin wraps up the 2024 campaign with a 5-22 overall record and 3-15 mark in OVC play. Mott concludes her spectacular career ranking second all-time with 1,866 digs while her 497 digs (ninth) and 5.07 digs per set average (sixth) in 2024 each rank in the top-10 seasons in school history.
