MARTIN, Tenn. – A 900-plus mile road trip for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad will result in a pair of games at the Island U Invitational. The Skyhawks will take on tournament host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 and Le Moyne at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
This marks UT Martin's fourth trip to the Lone Star State in the school's NCAA Division I Era (since 1992). Each of the Skyhawks' four visits to the state of Texas have occurred in the last decade as UT Martin has squared off against Rice (2023-24), Baylor (2019-20), Texas Tech (2015-16) and UTRGV (2015-16).
The Skyhawks (2-2) are in the midst of a six-game stretch where they are playing at all road or neutral sites. UT Martin knocked off projected Missouri Valley Conference contender Illinois State on Nov. 4 and was literally seconds away from defeating defending Big South Conference tournament champion Longwood in its last action. Josué Grullon has been on fire to start the 2024-25 campaign as the reigning second-team junior college All-American is pumping in 20.8 points per game while sinking 47.4 percent (18-for-38) of his attempts from three-point land.
The Islanders (1-3) will be playing at home for the first time since Nov. 8 as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has faced a tough nonconference road slate that includes No. 6 Purdue, New Mexico and New Mexico State. Returning first team All-Southland Conference forward Garry Clark has scored in double digits in all four games so far in 2023-24 and is averaging a team-best 14.0 points per outing.
Now in their second season reclassifying as a NCAA Division I member, the Dolphins (1-4) have loaded up their nonconference road schedule - matching up against Syracuse (a narrow 86-82 loss on Opening Night), two-time defending national champion Connecticut and traditional Atlantic 10 Conference powerhouse St. Bonaventure. Dwayne Koroma paces a balanced Dolphin attack as nine different players average between 6 and 11 points per outing.
