WACO, Texas – Six spots changed from last week's National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 poll but the University of Tennessee at Martin remained at the No. 10 slot in the updated set of rankings unveiled this afternoon.
Auburn firmly retained its No. 1 ranking and the No. 8-10 teams stayed the same in South Carolina, Delaware State and the Skyhawks in that order. However, each of the No. 2 through No. 7 slots were shifted, starting with No. 2 TCU and followed by No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 SMU, No. 6 Fresno State and No. 7 Georgia.
UT Martin did not climb up the poll despite a strong showing during its home-opening weekend. The Skyhawks dispatched two-time defending Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament champions UC Davis by a 16-4 margin and hung with now-No. 4 Oklahoma State throughout before falling 12-7.
UT Martin displayed a well-balanced attack this past weekend, winning at least five head-to-head decisions and one MOP in all four events. In fences, the Skyhawks reeled off five victories on a 77.3 scoring average with one MOP while producing six wins, two MOP's and a 78.4 scoring average in flat. In the Western discipline, UT Martin was responsible for a 73.8 average, six triumphs and one MOP in horsemanship plus a 68.7 scoring average, six victories and one MOP in reining.
A total of 14 different Skyhawks chipped in victories against either UC Davis or Oklahoma State with half of those riders having a hand in at least two wins. Elizabeth Becker (2-0 in fences) and Gabby Adams (2-0 in flat) each collected three triumphs while Audrey Morris added a pair of victories while competing in both Jumping Seat events. In Western, Lexi Bailey won twice while competing in both horsemanship and flat while Kailyn Veale (horsemanship), Elise Mason (reining) and Logan Putvinski (reining) each went 2-0 in their respective events.
UT Martin is matched up with its third nationally ranked opponent of the young 2024-25 season this weekend when it hosts No. 1 Auburn. The meet on Saturday, Oct. 26 is set for 10 a.m. at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
