MARTIN, Tenn. – A season-long five-match homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team continues this weekend, taking on Ohio Valley Conference foe Lindenwood in a two-match series. First serve from Skyhawk Fieldhouse is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
UT Martin is 3-1 all-time against Lindenwood, who is in its third season competing in the OVC. The Skyhawks won both home matchups (3-2, 3-0) against the Lions on Oct. 21-22, 2022 before splitting a pair of four-set decisions last season in St. Charles, Mo. Last season, Kayla Bryant led the way for UT Martin with a pair of double-doubles, averaging 3.63 kills and 3.50 digs per set against Lindenwood. Jenna Vallée also produced 17 combined kills on a .295 attack percentage against the Lions last fall while Dylan Mott scooped up 5.63 digs per set in 2022 against Lindenwood.
Last weekend against Morehead State, Bryant and Kylie Surratt tied for the team lead with 18 kills apiece. Katie Cruise's three service aces paced the Skyhawks (3-11, 1-4 OVC) while Mott (team-best 32 digs) and Kristin Phillips (team-highs of five blocks and a .321 hitting percentage) also guided UT Martin.
Mott remains the OVC leader in digs as the senior libero out of Hendersonville, Tenn. is registering 4.98 digs per set. Bryant's 0.45 service aces per set in conference play ranks second while Cruise ranks in the top-10 in the OVC in assists (7.42 per set, fifth) and service aces (0.32 per set, eighth).
The Lions (12-7, 6-1 OVC) made a statement last weekend, sweeping a pair of 3-0 decisions against a Tennessee Tech squad that had entered the series with a 15-1 overall record. The Lindenwood offense has been incredibly effective in league play, topping the OVC in points (18.15 per set), attack percentage (.255), assists (13.81 per set) and kills (14.96 per set). Four-time OVC Setter of the Week Allie Otten hands out a league-best 11.88 assists per set in OVC play while Jessie Seidel (league-high 5.50 digs per set against OVC opposition) recently eclipsed the 2,000 career dig plateau. Autumn Bax has also been a threat as the four-time OVC Freshman of the Week averages 3.69 kills per set on a .313 hitting percentage in league play, ranking in the top-10 in the OVC in both categories.
