MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad makes its long-awaited return to Skyhawk Fieldhouse this weekend as UT Martin hosts Morehead State in a pair of Ohio Valley Conference showdowns.
The Skyhawks have not played in front of their home crowd since Sept. 10 – marking a 31-day layoff between home outings. This weekend kickstarts a season-long home stretch where UT Martin will play five matches in Skyhawk Fieldhouse in the span of 12 days.
UT Martin (3-9, 1-2 OVC) has won each of its last two home meetings against the Eagles, collecting back-to-back sweeps on Nov. 3-4, 2022. Dylan Mott has accounted for 67 career digs against Morehead State while Jenna Vallée (19 kills on a .333 hitting percentage) and Kristin Phillips (17 kills, seven blocks) excelled against the Eagles in two matches in 2023.
The Skyhawks are coming off their first OVC triumph of the season, a five-set thriller at Southern Indiana on Oct. 1. In that match, redshirt freshman Dylan Sulcer became only the seventh different UT Martin player (and first OVC player in 2023) to amass a triple-double, dialing up career-highs in kills (11), assists (13), digs (14) and blocks (five). Mott (32 digs, career-best 13 assists), Kayla Bryant (season-high 15 kills, 12 digs) and Katie Cruise (24 assists, career-best 15 digs) also recorded double-doubles while Kylie Surratt paced the Skyhawks in kills (15) for the seventh time this fall.
That triumph gave Jaclynn Wilson 111 victories as UT Martin's head coach, which passed Chris Rushing (1998-2004) as the program's all-time NCAA Division I wins leader.
In league play, the Skyhawks rank atop the OVC with 19.58 digs per set. Mott is the OVC leader in digs in all matches (5.16 per set) and against league competition (6.08 per set) while Bryant's 0.58 service aces per set in conference play is tied for the league lead. Cruise ranks in the OVC's overall top-10 in assists per set (7.91, fifth) and service aces per set (0.31, 10th) while Surratt's 3.17 kills per set against OVC squads ranks eighth.
Morehead State (6-9, 2-2 OVC) enters the weekend as the OVC leader in service aces (2.07 per set) in league competition. Preseason All-OVC honoree Irene Wogenstahl ranks in the top-10 in the OVC with 1.27 blocks per set (third), a .394 attack percentage (fourth), 3.93 points per set (fifth) and 3.20 kills per set (seventh) in league play. ME Hargan, who also earned Preseason All-OVC accolades, is ninth in the league with 163 overall kills (2.86 per set).
Both matches this weekend will be streamed live on ESPN+ as those links plus links for live stats can be found above.
