
UT MARTIN MEN'S BASKETBALL KICKS OFF SEASON-LONG FOUR-GAME ROAD TRIP TOMORROW AT OVC RIVAL EASTERN ILLINOIS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of four consecutive road games for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team takes place at Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois. Tipoff tomorrow is set for 7:30 p.m. at Groniger Arena in Charleston, Ill.
The Skyhawks are coming off a home sweep over Southeast Missouri (84-58) and Lindenwood (76-67) last week, leading for a combined 75:34 of clock time in those two contests. UT Martin outrebounded its opponents by an 89-64 margin while holding the Redhawks and Lions to 23.1 percent shooting (9-for-39) from three-point land.
Issa Muhammad was named OVC Player and Newcomer of the Week on Monday after averaging a double-double of 14.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest. Jacob Crews (19.5 points per outing) and OVC scoring leader Jordan Sears (18.0 points per game) also boasted strong weeks for the Skyhawks.
UT Martin (12-9, 5-3 OVC) is in search of a season split against the Panthers, who won by a 79-72 margin in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Jan. 4. Sears poured in a game-high 26 points (on 11-of-15 shooting) while KK Curry was responsible for a season-best 16 points but Eastern Illinois shot 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from beyond the three-point arc.
In three career games against the Panthers, Sears is averaging 20.3 points on a sizzling 67.6 percent (23-of-34) shooting. Jalen Myers also posted 10.0 points per outing when matched up against Eastern Illinois during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Panthers (10-11, 4-4 OVC) split a pair of home decisions last week, defeating Tennessee Tech (68-59 on Thursday) before falling to Tennessee State (64-60 on Saturday). In the game against the Skyhawks earlier this season, Eastern Illinois was paced by the high-scoring trio of Tiger Booker (21 points), Corey Sawyer, Jr. (20 points) and Kooper Jacobi (19 points).
