UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS TO CLOSE OUT HOMESTAND AGAINST LINDENWOOD
1/26/2024 5:05:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to close out the month of January and its current homestand on a high note when welcoming Ohio Valley Conference foe Lindenwood into town on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
In conjunction with the team's final home game for two weeks, the Skyhawks are hosting UT Martin Friends and Family Day in the Elam Center on Saturday. Faculty and staff – along with their immediate families – will receive complimentary admission to the contest with presentation of a UT Martin ID.
The Skyhawks (7-11, 4-3 OVC) picked up a win on Thursday night to kick off the weekend behind a stingy defensive effort and dominant work on the glass. UT Martin tallied a season-high 49 rebounds in the win while limiting Southeast Missouri to a 28.6 percent field goal percentage in a 52-44 victory.
The sophomore forward tandem of Anaya Brown and Lexi Rubel had big nights in the win while combining for 30 rebounds in a pair of double-doubles. Brown scored a game-high 14 points while snagging a career-high 20 rebounds against the Redhawks to become just the third player in program history to eclipse 20 rebounds in a single game. Rubel was also impressive as she assumed the point-forward role down the stretch while notching 11 points and 10 rebounds for her third career double-double.
Lindenwood (3-14, 1-6 OVC) took OVC contender Little Rock to the brink on Thursday morning before ultimately falling on the road by a final margin of 50-45. The Lions are led offensively by Ellie Brueggemann with 13.9 points per game under first-year head coach Amy Eagan.
The series history is brief between the two programs after Lindenwood rose to the Division I ranks and joined the OVC prior to the 2022-23 season. While last season's contest in Martin went down as an official forfeit in the league standings, Lindenwood won the lone head-to-head matchup by securing an 84-75 victory in St. Charles.
The contest will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ while local listeners can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action live from courtside. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
