MARTIN, Tenn. – Fresh off arguably its best defensive effort of the season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks for its third straight home victory when the Lindenwood Lions visit the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center tomorrow. Tipoff time is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
On Thursday against defending Ohio Valley Conference tournament champion Southeast Missouri, the Skyhawks (11-9, 4-3 OVC) held a NCAA Division I opponent to season-lows in scoring (58 points) and three-point field goal percentage (.158, 3-for-19) in a 26-point win. UT Martin especially clamped down in the first half as the Redhawks went 0-for-8 with four turnovers during a critical stretch of 7:22 where the Skyhawks went on a 19-1 run.
OVC scoring leader Jordan Sears tossed in a game-high 20 points while Jacob Crews (19 points, seven rebounds) and Issa Muhammad (14 points, 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season) also pieced together big performances against Southeast Missouri.
Last season against Lindenwood, Sears averaged 17.5 points per outing (thanks in large part to a 16-of-20 performance from the free throw line) while Jalen Myers averaged 14.5 points per outing while shooting 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from the field.
The Lions (7-13, 1-6 OVC) enter the contest on a four-game skid, including an 80-66 setback at Little Rock on Thursday. In that game, Keenon Cole produced game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds while Darius Beane and Jeremiah Talton scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Cole garnered national attention two weeks ago when he poured in 42 points in a Jan. 11 road win at Southeast Missouri. That outburst resulted in an Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honor as his scoring tally was the most by any 2023-24 NCAA Division I men's basketball player at the time.
