MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team aims to close out its homestand on a high note as the Skyhawks play host to Little Rock in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt tomorrow. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., following the women's game as part of a basketball doubleheader.
Both UT Martin (9-8) and the Trojans (8-9) are one of four teams sitting in a third-place tie in the OVC standings during the early portion of the league season. The Skyhawks and Little Rock are joined by SIUE and Eastern Illinois with 2-2 league marks, trailing only Morehead State and Western Illinois (who are both 4-0).
These two squads split their series in 2022-23 as each team protected its home court. The backcourt duo of Jordan Sears (12.0 points per game) and Desmond Williams (10.5) each averaged double figures in the scoring column against Little Rock last season while Jalen Myers went off for 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in just 23 minutes in UT Martin's 84-61 triumph over the Trojans on Feb. 11 in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 73-64 setback against aforementioned OVC co-leader Western Illinois on Thursday. UT Martin held the Leathernecks to just 39.3 percent shooting (24-of-61), marking the Skyhawks' first loss when holding an opponent under 40 percent from the field in 2023-24 (was previously 6-0). Jacob Crews (21 points, 10 rebounds), Sears (13 points) and Myers (10 points) led the way for UT Martin.
Little Rock is in action for the first time since last Saturday, a 90-88 home loss to Eastern Illinois. In that game, the Trojans shot 55.4 percent (31-for-56) and led for 30:44 of clock time but couldn't hold off a Panther rally. Two-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Jamir Chaplin (19 points), Texas A&M transfer KK Robinson (18 points, game-high seven assists), Bradley Douglas (18 points on six treys) and DeAntoni Gordon (15 points, game-high seven rebounds) guided Little Rock.
Davis Gregory (play-by-play) and John Hatler (color) will broadcast the game live from courtside on ESPN+ and WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link to follow along with live stats, can be found above.
