
UT MARTIN SOCCER PLAYS HOST TO OVC NEWCOMER WESTERN ILLINOIS ON SUNDAY

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team marches on with its Ohio Valley Conference schedule this Sunday, Oct. 1 when Western Illinois visits Skyhawk Field.

The Skyhawks (3-6-2, 0-1-1) earned their first point of the season last Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Little Rock. Peyton Cook scored her first career goal in the contest while also leading the team in shots (four).

Junior Makayla Robinson resides in a tie for third in the OVC in goals scored (3) while Catey Hunt is tied for the conference lead in game-winning goals (2). UT Martin has seen three freshmen find the back of the net in Cook, Jordan Bailey and Rachel Okoro. Leading the team in assists is Caroline Moore (2), who is also tied for second in the OVC in that category.

On defense, sophomore goalkeeper Poppy Bastock's has made 49 saves while placing third in the conference in saves per match (4.90). Hunt (987), Shayla Addington (978), Gwen Walters (923) and Izzy Patterson (904) have been workhorses, recording over 900 minutes played.

Western Illinois (2-4-3, 0-0-2) is led in goals by Kelsi McThenia and Alanna Pennington, who have each scored two for the Leathernecks. Senior goalkeeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez enters Sunday as a three-time winner of the OVC Goalkeeper of the Week award. Rodriguez ranks first in the conference in goals against average (1.125) and shutouts (4), third in save percentage (.809) and fourth in saves per match (4.75).

Sunday's contest will serve as the first all-time meeting between UT Martin and Western Illinois. First touch is set for 1 p.m. and ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
