
UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN JUMPS BACK IN NCEA NATIONAL RANKINGS AT NO. 10

WACO, Texas – Following an impressive road win last week, the University of Tennessee at Martin has moved back into the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 poll today.
SMU is the No. 1 team in this afternoon's poll and is followed by No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Fresno State, No. 9 Baylor and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
Today's appearance in the poll marks the 13th week that UT Martin has been ranked during the course of the 2022-23 campaign but first since Feb. 7.
The Skyhawks competed for the first time since Feb. 11 last week in Brookings, SD, defeating Eastern College Athletic Conference rival South Dakota State by an 11-9 margin. The win completed a regular season sweep for UT Martin over the Jackrabbits and kept the Skyhawks atop the ECAC standings at a perfect 3-0.
UT Martin won seven of 10 points in the Jumping Seat discipline against South Dakota State. That included four wins in five decisions in flat as Sydney Hott (82 points), Sophia Sundem (80), Rileigh Weiss (78) and Julia Gilman (72) each scored victories. In fences, Haley Kane (82 points), Hott (78) and Gilman (74) all won their head-to-head matchups.
In the Western discipline, the Skyhawks secured four wins – three of which occurred in horsemanship. Kate Davis won ECAC Rider of the Week accolades following a 74.5-point effort and was joined with wins from Paige Benson (76.5 points) and Lexi Bailey (75). In reining, Logan Putvinski earned a win behind a 74-point performance.
UT Martin wraps up the 2022-23 regular season with two home scrimmages this week. The Skyhawks host Bridgewater on Friday, March 10 at noon and Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m.
