
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RETURNS TO ACTION WITH ROAD GAME AT TROY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball hits the road this weekend for its first game in a week when traveling to Troy on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tipoff from Trojan Arena is scheduled for 3:33 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (1-6) picked up their first win of the season against Evansville last Saturday by a final score of 94-82. The win marked the 700th program victory in UT Martin's 54-year history since its inception in 1969-70.
In the win over Evansville, the Skyhawks shot 62.5 percent from the floor – marking the first time the team had shot over 60 percent from the floor in exactly six years to the date. The squad also eclipsed the 90-point plateau for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
UT Martin is seeing its offense heat up after a slow start to the season. In the team's first five games, UT Martin averaged 53.0 points per game while shooting 34.6 percent from the field. The offense saw a resurgence against Murray State and Evansville by averaging 84.5 points per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the floor.
Five players averaged in double figures for the Skyhawks last week – led by OVC Freshman of the Week Kenley McCarn who averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a pair of contests. Anaya Brown (15.5 ppg), Lexi Rubel (15.0 ppg), Morgan Borgstadt (12.0 ppg) and Love Mays (10.0 ppg) also averaged 10 points or more for the week.
Troy (0-6) enters the contest looking for its first win of the season after facing a difficult schedule – including an 86-70 loss to Georgia on Wednesday morning. The Trojans feature four players who average scoring in double figures, led by Makayia Hallmon with a team-high 14.0 points per game while Nia Daniel (12.3 ppg), Ja'Mia Hollings (12.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and Tai'Sheka Porchia (11.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg) pace the squad.
Saturday's contest marks the 18th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1982 when both programs were Division II. UT Martin leads the all-time series by a 10-7 margin but Troy enters the matchup riding a four-game winning streak – including a 89-84 victory last season.
