
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS CLOSES OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY AT ARKANSAS STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to close out the non-conference portion of the 2023-24 schedule when traveling to regional foe and Sun Belt member Arkansas State on Thursday, Dec. 21. Tipoff from First National Bank Arena is slated for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (2-8) went to overtime in their last contest, pushing a veteran South Dakota squad to the brink before ultimately running out of steam in the final segment, dropping the home contest 80-74. The game featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes while UT Martin placed three players in double figures – including the third career double-double for forward Anaya Brown who posted 13 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Arkansas native Kenley McCarn (15.7 ppg) is hoping to put on a show in her home state after recently being named both OVC Player and Freshman of the Week following a 31-point effort against South Dakota. The redshirt-freshman has scored in double figures in 12 of 14 career games while averaging 21.0 points while adding 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in a pair of home contests last week. The combo guard shot 52.0 percent from the field while knocking down six three-pointers.
Arkansas State (6-3) has won five of its last six contests – including a 74-59 win over in-state foe Little Rock on Sunday. The Red Wolves are led by Izzy Higginbottom who ranks seventh nationally with 23.1 points per game while adding 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per night. Lauryn Pendleton also averages in double figures, tossing in 12.7 points per game.
Thursday's contest marks the 16th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1980. UT Martin holds a 9-6 advantage in the all-time series and have posted a 5-3 mark against Arkansas State under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan.
