UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS TO HOST SEC FOE VANDERBILT FOR HOME OPENER ON THURSDAY
11/8/2023 6:06:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball makes its long-anticipated home debut on Thursday, Nov. 9 when playing host to Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-1) are looking to bounce back after suffering an 84-51 defeat at the hands of Marquette on Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles proved to be too much for the young Skyhawks in the opener as they shot 51.7 percent from the floor and placed six players in double figures.
Redshirt-freshman Kenley McCarn led the team with 15 points in the contest – including 13 points in the second half. Sophomore Anaya Brown ranked as the team's other top score – adding 14 points and six rebounds in the opener.
UT Martin is hoping the Elam Center proves to be unfriendly to opposing teams as the Skyhawks have posted a 136-39 (77.4 percent) record at home during the Kevin McMillan Era.
Vanderbilt (1-0) enters the matchup looking to build upon a dominating performance in its season opener in which the Commodores posted a 98-51 home victory. The Dores had five players score in double figures with Sacha Washington scoring a team-high 16 points while Khamil Pierre (14), Justin Pissott (12.0), Jordyn Cambridge (11) and Iyana Moore (11) rounded out the stat sheet.
Thursday's contest marks the 15th meeting between the two programs with Vanderbilt holding a 12-2 advantage. The Skyhawks got the better of the Commodores last year, picking up a 66-54 road victory in Nashville on Dec. 4, 2022.
While the game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+, fans can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network locally to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
