WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll did not change for the third consecutive week today as the University of Tennessee at Martin remained No. 10 in the listing of the top-10 teams in the country.
TCU stayed at No. 1 and is followed in the top-five by Auburn, SMU, Texas A&M and Georgia. The bottom half of the rankings include No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UC Davis and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
UT Martin, who has not competed in an official capacity since Oct. 28, has faced a daunting schedule in 2023-24 that includes five nationally ranked opponents out of six meets. The stiff competition has not prevented the Skyhawks from racking up the individual accolades as nine different riders have combined to claim Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week or Rider of the Month awards.
In fences, Haley Kane and Sydney Hott share the team lead with three wins apiece while Hott (team-best 81.6 scoring average) also accounts for the team's lone MOP in the event.
Sophia Sundem and Hott have each notched a team-best four victories in flat with both riders bringing home one MOP award each. Sundem's 82.5 scoring average ranks as the best mark on the squad.
Lexi Bailey's three head-to-head wins are the most in horsemanship as UT Martin boasts a well-balanced attack. Kate Davis tops the Skyhawks in scoring average (73.3) while Ava Newsom and Emma Schaefer have each garnered one MOP apiece.
UT Martin has gotten a lift in reining lately out of Schaefer, who is 4-0 (team-high in wins) with a pair of MOP's (also a team-best) in her last four meets. Bailey leads the team with a 68.5 scoring average while Davis has also collected one MOP honor in the event.
The Skyhawks round out the fall portion of their 2023-24 schedule next weekend when they make the trip to Felton, Del. to take on No. 8 Baylor (Nov. 17) and ECAC foe Delaware State (Nov. 18).
