UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TRAVELS TO REGIONAL RIVAL MURRAY STATE ON TUESDAY
11/27/2023 4:37:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will continue its brief road trip with a matchup against regional rival Murray State on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Tipoff from the CFSB Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-5) enter the contest looking for their first win of the season after a six-day hiatus for the Thanksgiving holiday. UT Martin is hoping to avoid a six-game losing streak which would tie for the longest winless stretch during the Kevin McMillan Era – joining stints in 2009, 2017 and 2019. This already marks the first time the Skyhawks have started the season 0-5 since the 1975-76 season.
In the team's most recent outing, UT Martin overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half at North Alabama and later built a lead as large as eight points in the second half, but ultimately ran out of gas down the stretch. A tough fourth quarter saw the host Lions outscore the Skyhawks by 13 and pull away with a 70-63 victory.
The freshmen pair of Norah Clark (15 points, six rebounds) and Morgan Borgstadt (13 points, four rebounds) paced the Skyhawks offensively with 28 combined points on the road. Sophomore Anaya Brown also had a nice game by posting the second double-double of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Murray State (2-2) is riding a red-hot offense into Tuesday night's contest. The Racers rank fourth nationally in scoring offense by averaging 96.8 points per game while knocking down 10.2 three-pointers per game – which also ranks sixth nationally. Mid-major All-American Katelyn Young leads five Racers in double figures by averaging 17.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Other top scoring performers for Murray State include Ava Learn (14.5 ppg), Hanah McKay (11.3 ppg), Zoe Stewart (11.0 ppg) and Haven Ford (10.0 ppg).
Tuesday's contest marks the 97th meeting between the two long-time conference foes with UT Martin holding a 58-38 series advantage. While the Skyhawks have boasted a 24-7 record against the Racers under head coach Kevin McMillan, the Racers have picked up wins in the last three meetings.
While the game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+, fans can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network locally to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
