
SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN STAYS AT NO. 10 IN LATEST SET OF NCEA TOP-10 RANKINGS

WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin appeared in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll this afternoon for the 10th straight week, coming in at No. 10.
Over the weekend, the Skyhawks were back in action for the first time in three weeks as they traveled to Felton, Del for a pair of meets. UT Martin upended then-No. 8 Baylor courtesy of a raw points tiebreaker (1,202 to 1,059 after the score was evened at 7-all) before falling 10-7 in a tight contest against Delaware State.
The Skyhawks' scoring distribution was even during the two meets as the squad received seven wins (plus two ties) from the Jumping Seat discipline to go along with seven victories (and three tie scores) in the Western discipline.
In fences, UT Martin came away with six triumphs and a pair of MOP's as Elizabeth Becker (Baylor) and Gabby Adams (Delaware State) each nabbed top accolades. Together, the Skyhawks combined for a 77.7 scoring average in fences. One win and two ties were notched in UT Martin's flat appearances as the squad collected a 71.6 average score.
The reining event resulted in four victories and a pair of ties for the Skyhawks, who saw Lexi Bailey earn MOP honors in both meets over the weekend. UT Martin registered an average score of 70.6 points in reining while tacking on three more wins, a tie and a 71.9 scoring average in horsemanship in the two meets.
TCU is No. 1 in this week's rankings and is followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 SMU, No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Delaware State, No. 9 UC Davis and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
UT Martin's fall schedule is now complete as the Skyhawks will next ride in an official capacity on Feb. 9-10 against Eastern College Athletic Conference rivals Delaware State and UC Davis at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
