MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad will look to get back in the win column on Monday, Nov. 13 when it hosts the Brescia Bearcats at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks are 3-0 all-time against the NAIA opponent out of Owensboro, Ky., hosting Brescia for the fourth time in school history. UT Martin last squared off against the Bearcats on Dec. 15, 2018 - a 108-79 triumph.
On Saturday, the Skyhawks (1-1) went on the road for the first time in the young 2023-24 season, falling by an 87-63 margin to reigning NCAA Tournament participant Mississippi State. Jordan Sears (21 points) and KK Curry (13 points) each scored in double figures while Jacob Crews (nine rebounds) and Issa Muhammad (four assists) each set new career-highs in their respective statistical categories.
Through a pair of contests during the 2023-24 season, UT Martin has held the opposition to 38.6 percent shooting while forcing 30 turnovers. The Skyhawks have shown a tenacious will on the glass, snaring 100 rebounds (29 of which have come on the offensive end).
Brescia officially begins its season on Nov. 18 but has played a pair of exhibitions against NCAA Division I opponents. The Bearcats only trailed by three points at halftime of a 90-69 setback at Murray State on Nov. 1 before falling 91-41 at Jacksonville State on Nov. 7.
Ksuan Casey, who began his collegiate career at UT Martin in 2020-21, averaged team-highs of 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game during Brescia's two exhibitions. Freshman Gonzalo Luque (10.5 points per outing) and leading returning scorer Camden Pfeister (10.0 points per contest) also collected double-digit scoring averages for head coach Sarah Gayler, who became the first female to coach NAIA men's basketball when she was hired in September 2021.
