JONESBORO, Ark. – Today's final round of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate saw the University of Tennessee at Martin golf program shoot 10-under par as the Skyhawks once again closed out another tournament with an impressive score.
UT Martin's 278 today was the third best tally in the 16-man field, trailing only tournament winner Arkansas State (276) and runner-up Memphis (272). As a direct result, the Skyhawks leapt up the team standings from seventh to fifth place with an overall score of 846 (-16), ranking second in the tournament with 168 pars.
The Round 3 jump resulted in UT Martin's third straight top-5 tournament finish this fall as the Skyhawks have shot 62-under par as a team in that span.
"I'm very pleased with how disciplined the guys played today," UT Martin head coach Austin Swafford said. "This course requires a lot from you going into the greens and they handled that well today. For us to come out and shoot our best round of the tournament on the final day and move up into the top five – I am extremely proud of our team."
Dax Isbell guided the Skyhawks today as he authored his third consecutive top-10 finish. The sophomore from Cumming, Ga. shot a team-best 68 with five birdies (all occurring in a six-hole stretch on the front nine) and an eagle. For the event, he placed sixth in the strong field of 88 golfers with a 207 (-9) at RidgePointe Country Club, leading the squad in birdies (13), par-4 scoring (3.90, -3) and par-5 scoring (4.50, -6).
Jonathan Xoinis (four birdies and an eagle) and Ethan Ray (five birdies) each carded 69's today while Jacob Uehlein managed three birdies on the way to an even-par 72 as the final countable score in UT Martin's lineup.
Grant Phillips shot a 76 with three birdies while Jackson Twerdahl published a 79 with one birdie on the scorecard as an individual in Round 3.
For the tournament, Xoinis racked up his second top-20 of the 2023-24 campaign with a 212 (-4), tapping in a team-best 36 pars.
