WACO, Texas – After a pair of season-opening top-10 tests for the University of Tennessee at Martin, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association kept the Skyhawks at No. 10 in their weekly top-10 rankings.
UT Martin officially kicked off the 2023-24 campaign with road meets at No. 8 South Carolina and No. 6 Georgia last weekend. The Skyhawks recorded one MOP, nine individual victories and four ties in their first action of the season.
Sydney Hott received UT Martin's MOP on Friday at South Carolina, accomplishing that feat via an 85-point ride in flat. The Skyhawks found their most success in flat over the weekend as four different UT Martin riders (Hott, Haley Kane, Bridget Vieau, Sophia Sundem) each won head-to-head matchups against nationally ranked competition.
Elizabeth Becker and Kate Mills each came away with victories in fences, both coming on Saturday at Georgia. In the Western discipline, Emma Schaefer and Lexi Bailey each earned wins in horsemanship while Logan Putvinski claimed a victory in reining. Both Bailey and Kate Davis also came away with two ties each for the Skyhawks, who saw seven riders achieve career-high scores during the season-opening weekend.
There were no changes to the NCEA top-10 rankings from last week. TCU remained at No. 1 and was followed by No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 SMU, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Baylor, No. 8 South Carolina, No. 9 UC Davis and No. 10 UT Martin.
The Skyhawks are idle until their home-opening weekend, welcoming South Carolina State and No. 2 Auburn to the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13, respectively.
