DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference unveiled its equestrian Riders of the Week today and the University of Tennessee at Martin was responsible for all four recipients. Kate Mills (fences), Sydney Hott (flat), Lexi Bailey (horsemanship) and Logan Putvinski (reining) each chalked up their first ECAC weekly accolade of the 2023-24 season.
Today's announcement marks the first time since March 15, 2022 that the Skyhawks won all four ECAC Rider of the Week awards on the same day.
Mills made her collegiate debut on Saturday at No. 6 Georgia and showed no signs of nerves. The freshman from Charlotte, NC compiled a team-best 82 points for a two-point victory over her competitor Melissa Deryn Foster aboard D-Jan.
A senior out of Defiance, Mo., Hott accounted flat MOP honors in the Friday season opener at No. 8 South Carolina. Her 85-point performance aboard Tanner was the highest of any flat competitor on both sides as she defeated Natalie Jayne. The following day, Hott posted 79 points – the second-highest score on the team – in flat at Georgia.
Bailey accumulated a score of 71.5 points on Saturday at Georgia, a number that bested her competitor Alyvia Dixon by 2.5 points aboard Tootsie. The previous day at South Carolina, the junior from Union Mills, Ind. tied for the team lead with 72.5 points, narrowly falling by 0.5 points in her head-to-head duel.
A junior who hails from Knoxville, Tenn., Putvinski equaled the best score of any reining rider on either squad with a 70-point effort at Georgia – edging out Jordyn Budzynski by two points aboard Wilbur. Putvinski also competed at South Carolina, posting a score of 68.5 points.
The No. 10 ranked UT Martin squad returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 12 when it squares off against ECAC foe South Dakota State in its home opener. The Skyhawks will also host No. 2 Auburn on the following day at Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
