UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL HOSTS OVC FOE SIUE AS PART OF HOMECOMING WEEKEND; CODE ORANGE ACTIVATED FOR FRIDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – Fresh off back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference wins, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad will look to continue that momentum into a weekend home series against SIUE at Skyhawk Fieldhouse. First serve times are 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
A "Code Orange" is in full effect for Friday's match as the first 75 students at the pregame tailgate will receive a free hot dog. Between the second and third sets, students can compete in a three-legged potato sack race for a chance to win a t-shirt.
The Skyhawks (6-14, 4-6 OVC) have won five straight decisions against the Cougars, including a four-set triumph in last season's OVC Championship tournament quarterfinals. Haeleigh Paulino (55 assists) and Addy Vaughn (45 assists) helped UT Martin hit a combined .305 in three meetings last fall while Mia Saenz (.385 attack percentage, 1.10 blocks per set) and Dylan Mott (37 digs) also paced the Skyhawks.
During UT Martin's last two OVC victories, Olivia Saunders has posted team-highs in kills (25, 3.57 per set), hitting percentage (.293) and blocks (nine, 1.29 per set). Kayla Bryant has also piled up 20 kills to guide the Skyhawks, who have landed a dozen service aces compared to just two aces for the opposition. Mott's 33 digs (4.71 per set) have barely edged out Kayla Carrell (32, 4.57 per set) for the team lead in that category as the UT Martin defense has limited its opponents to a .114 attack percentage.
Carrell has shined against OVC competition as the graduate libero from Pensacola, Fla. boasts a 4.69 digs per set average. That ranks fourth in the OVC as the second half of league play approaches.
SIUE (10-9, 4-4 OVC) enters this weekend on a three-match winning streak. In its home sweep over Tennessee Tech last weekend, junior outside hitter Sydney Hummert came away with a combined 24 kills and 30 digs – achieving her fourth and fifth straight double-double. Priscilla Jones (1.25 blocks per set) and Abi Banitt (4.0 digs per set) shored up the defense for the Cougars, who top the OVC with 2.39 blocks per set.
