
CODE ORANGE CALLED AS SKYHAWK SOCCER HOSTS SIUE FOR SENIOR NIGHT AND YOUTH SOCCER APPRECIATION NIGHT

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team will carry a four-match home unbeaten streak into its contest with SIUE on Thursday, Oct. 19th at 7 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Night and Youth Soccer Appreciation Night.

Additionally, a "Code Orange" has been called for Thursday's bout as the first 75 students at the pregame tailgate will receive a free hot dog. There will also be a penalty kick challenge for UT Martin students at halftime as competitors will have a chance to win a shirt.

Seniors Olivia Magnusson and Catey Hunt will be honored in a pregame ceremony to commemorate their contributions to the Skyhawk soccer program. Magnusson transferred to UT Martin this offseason from East Central University as the Huddinge, Sweden native has played in one match this fall – logging time at Lindenwood on Oct. 5. A five-year starter for the Skyhawks, Hunt has played 7,094 minutes, playing in 82 matches and starting 79 total contests. The McDonough, Ga. native ranks third in program history in matches started and is tied for seventh in matches played.

This match will also serve as Youth Soccer Appreciation Night as all area youth soccer teams are invited to come out and enjoy UT Martin's final home match of the 2023 regular season.

The Skyhawks (5-7-4, 2-2-3 Ohio Valley Conference) will take the pitch following a 1-1 draw on Sunday to Southern Indiana. In that match, Izzy Patterson scored her third goal of the season while tallying a career-high nine shots. Sophomore Poppy Bastock and freshman Andrea Wie combined for five saves on the day in goal.

Patterson and Peyton Cook rank tied for third in the OVC in shots attempted (34). With four goals on the year, UT Martin junior forward Makayla Robinson has set a new career-high for single-season scoring while sitting in a tie for fourth-most goals in the OVC.

Bastock has made 70 saves while facing 207 shots in her 14 matches started. The Leicester, England native possesses two shutouts with five wins recorded this fall for the Skyhawks.

As a team, UT Martin ranks in the top-five in conference play in shots (116, second), goals (nine, second), points (23, tied for fourth), saves (31, fourth) and assists (five, fifth). In minutes played the Skyhawks are led by Hunt (1,437), Shayla Addington (1,428), Gwen Walters (1,373), Patterson (1,338) and Allie Buchmann (1,288).

SIUE (5-5-4, 3-1-3 OVC) brings in a stout defense that has only allowed five goals against OVC opponents. Sidney Christopher leads the Cougars in goals (three) and has also notched two assists in her junior season. Goalkeeper Taylor Spiller is top-five in conference play in goals-against-average (.714, fourth) and save percentage (.828, fifth).
