
SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN REMAINS AT NO. 9 POSITION IN FIRST NCEA SPRING RANKINGS

WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings did not change from the last poll of the fall semester as the University of Tennessee at Martin stayed in the ninth slot.
The Skyhawks have now appeared in all 11 sets of NCEA top-10 rankings during the course of the 2022-23 campaign. SMU reclaimed the No. 1 spot and is followed by No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UT Martin and No. 10 Delaware State.
The Skyhawks were back in action for the first time in 71 days over the weekend, falling in tough weekend road matchups at No. 8 Baylor (15-2) and at No. 1 SMU (13-5) to officially kick off the spring semester.
Reining was UT Martin's best event over the weekend as the Skyhawks nabbed three victories and a pair of ties. Aubrey Malone went undefeated (1-0-1) for UT Martin while Emma Schaefer and Kate Davis each added a win. Lexi Bailey secured a tie against SMU while Logan Putvinski managed the top average score (71.5) on the squad.
Elizabeth Becker led the Skyhawks in both average score (81) and wins (one) in fences as Julia Gilman also earned a victory. Haley Kane came away with a tie in the matchup against Baylor.
UT Martin posted one flat win apiece during its weekend road trip, as Gilman (team-best 79.5 average score) claimed a victory against Baylor before Sophia Sundem emerged victorious the following day against SMU.
In horsemanship, Davis and Keely Seiter accumulated tie scores against Baylor and SMU, respectively. Schaefer was responsible for a team-high 74.0 scoring average in the event.
The Skyhawks are back home for three of the final five regular season meets, starting with a rematch against No. 1 SMU on Saturday, Feb. 11. This matchup will also serve as Senior Day for UT Martin and will begin at 10 a.m.
