The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team wraps up its three-game road swing with a return matchup to Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from the Show Me Center is scheduled for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
The two teams met just two weeks ago in Martin with UT Martin coming away with a 77-58 victory over Southeast Missouri. The star of the show was freshman forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks who posted a dominating double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
UT Martin (7-10, 3-3 OVC) is coming off a thrilling comeback victory against Southern Indiana on Saturday evening. With Skyhawks trailing by 12 in the fourth quarter, the squad ended up outscoring the Screaming Eagles by 13 in the period with a 30-point quarter. The team's depth was challenged as foul trouble and injuries left UTM with just five available players in the final six minutes of action.
The guard tandem of Shae Littleford and Josie Storey carried the Skyhawks in the road win against USI. Littleford recorded her ninth consecutive game in double figures after equaling her career-high with 21 points. Storey garnered OVC Freshman of the Week honors after scoring a career-high of her own with 20 points – including 17 points in the fourth quarter. Storey became the third Skyhawks to be named OVC Freshman of the Week while the squad has tallied seven weekly awards in total.
Southeast Missouri (7-10, 2-4 OVC) snapped a four-game losing streak to open league play with back-to-back wins against Lindenwood (68-45) and Morehead State (87-77) last week. In the last contest, the Redhawks scored 87 points which marked the most points scored against a league member in over two calendar years. Rahmena Henderson scored a career-high 25 points against Morehead State while Kiyley Flowers added a career-high of her own with 20 points.
Thursday's matchup marks the 78th meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 45-32 series advantage. The Skyhawks have won five consecutive meetings against the Redhawks while winning 12 of the last 13 contests in the Show Me Center.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will have the call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - plus a link to follow along with live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
