WACO, Texas – Each of the top six teams were shaken up in today's National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 poll but the bottom four squads – including the University of Tennessee at Martin at No. 9 – remained the same.
Auburn is the new top-ranked team in the land and is followed by No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 TCU, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 SMU, No. 8 Fresno State, the No. 9 Skyhawks and No. 10 Delaware State.
Today marked UT Martin's seventh appearance in the NCEA polls this season, including six consecutive editions of the rankings in the ninth spot under second-year head coach Kim Leiter.
The Skyhawks have been idle from official competition since Feb. 12. Only three more meets remain in the 2021-22 regular season, starting with a top-10 showdown at No. 6 Georgia this Saturday, March 5. UT Martin then returns home to host South Dakota State (March 11) and Minnesota-Crookston (March 12) on consecutive days before heading to Harrington, Del. for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship on March 24-26.
In fences, Kelby Kane boasts team-highs in victories (10) and scoring average (81.7) while sharing the team lead of three MOP's with her younger sister Haley Kane.
Julia Gilman tops the Skyhawks in MOP's (three) and is tied with Tyler Anderson with seven wins in flat. Kelby Kane is responsible for a team-best 78.4 scoring average in the event.
The UT Martin trio of Keely Seiter (four victories), Emma Schaefer (two MOP's) and Kate Davis (72.9 scoring average) pace the team in horsemanship.
Davis also has produced the best scoring average and most MOP's (three) on the squad in reining (69.8) while Logan Putvinski has contributed a team-high five head-to-head wins.
