WACO, Texas – There was no movement in this week's National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings, which were released this afternoon. For the fourth straight week, the University of Tennessee at Martin is ranked ninth in the national 10-team poll.
The Skyhawks have now been ranked in a half-dozen separate polls in 2021-22, appearing in the national rankings on Sept. 14, Nov. 23, Feb. 1, Feb. 8, Feb. 15 and today.
Oklahoma State assumed the top spot in today's poll and was followed in the top-five by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 TCU. The bottom-half of the top-10 was made up of No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 SMU, No. 8 Fresno State, No. 9 UT Martin and No. 10 Delaware State.
The Skyhawks, whose only action this past week was an 11-6 road exhibition win over Miami (Ohio) on Feb. 18, own a 5-6 overall record this season. That includes eight matchups against teams who are either currently ranked or were ranked at the time that UT Martin faced them.
Cumulatively, the Skyhawks have posted 82 victories and 20 MOP honors this season. In the Jumping Seat discipline, five different UT Martin riders have combined for 27 victories and six MOP's in fences. Meanwhile, seven separate Skyhawks have joined forces for 25 wins and six MOP's in flat.
In the Western discipline, UT Martin is responsible for 16 victories and four MOP's in reining, spread out over seven different Skyhawks. In horsemanship, five different UT Martin representatives have racked up 14 wins and four MOP's.
The Skyhawks will return to action on Saturday, March 5 when they travel to Bishop, Ga. for a matchup against current No. 4 Georgia.
