CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – In the team's final tune-up prior to the Ohio Valley Conference championship, the University of Tennessee at Martin track and field program rewrote the record books on Friday afternoon at the Southeast Missouri Student Rec Center where the 2022 Redhawks Open was contested.
Sophomore Darius Holland excelled in the men's long jump by blowing past the competition. Holland posted jumps of 7.36m and 7.38m which both would have won titles to shatter the program's indoor record. He also won the men's triple jump event by rewriting the record book with distances of 13.90m and 13.92m to win the event by over a meter over his closest competitor.
Junior Brady Fry was impressive in his two events for the Skyhawks by not only competing in both the men's 55m hurdles and 55m dash but by breaking his own school records. In the 55m hurdles, Fry won the event with a time of 7.78 seconds, bettering his previous mark by four-hundreths of a second while placing third in the 55m dash at 6.64 seconds to narrowly set a new program benchmark.
Sophomore Henry Griffin set a new school record in the men's pole vault on Friday with a height of 2.65m while also posting a fourth-place finish in the men's high jump with a distance of 1.60m for a new personal-best. He competed in his third event by recording a sixth-place distance of 5.54m in the long jump for his third PR of the day.
Freshman Trillanie Robinson had a big day of her own by setting a new PR time in the women's 55m hurdle event with a time of 9.57 seconds to finish second in the field.
Junior Jamire Thompson competed in the men's 55m hurdles where he finished third with a time of 8.18 seconds to set a new PR. Thompson also finished fifth in the men's long jump with a finals distance of 5.97m.
Freshman Marques Marshall II competed in the men's 55m dash where he came in sixth with a time of 6.95 seconds for his own collegiate best.
UT Martin will return to action when competing at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship in Birmingham, Ala. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 – Thursday, Feb. 24.
