
SKYHAWKS REMAIN NINTH IN THIS WEEK’S NATIONAL COLLEGIATE EQUESTRIAN ASSOCIATION POLL

WACO, Texas – For the third consecutive week, the University of Tennessee at Martin has checked in at No. 9 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings, which were unveiled this afternoon.
Making their fifth appearance in the NCEA top-10 poll this season, the Skyhawks are coming off a home split against UC Davis (won 11-8) and No. 1 Oklahoma State (lost 13-7) over the weekend. UT Martin combined for four MOP honorees in those two meets, led by Emma Schaefer's 2-for-2 effort in horsemanship. Haley Kane (fences) and Julia Gilman (flat) also secured top honors during Friday's matchup against UC Davis.
UT Martin nabbed five victories in each Jumping Seat event over the weekend. In fences, Haley Kane (team-best 86.5 scoring average) and Elizabeth Becker both went 2-0 while Kelby Kane added her 10th win of the season. Meanwhile in flat, Gilman maintained a perfect 2-0 record and a team-high 87.3 scoring average. Tyler Anderson, Kelby Kane and Sophia Sundem also tacked on victories over the weekend.
In the Western discipline, the Skyhawks accumulated four wins in each event last week. Schaefer's two victories and team-best 75.3 scoring average led the way in horsemanship while Paige Benson and Kate Davis each earned a head-to-head victory. Logan Putvinski (two wins), Aubrey Malone (one victory), Lexi Bailey (one win) and Brooke Bradley (team-high 68.0 scoring average) helped carry UT Martin in reining.
Oklahoma State held on to the No. 1 position in today's rankings and were followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 TCU, No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 SMU, No. 8 Fresno State, the No. 9 Skyhawks and No. 10 Delaware State.
UT Martin travels north for an exhibition this Friday, Feb. 18, taking on Miami (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio.
