
UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN RETAINS NO. 9 RANKING IN NCEA NATIONAL POLL

WACO, Texas – The first National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll of the spring semester came out this afternoon and the University of Tennessee at Martin remained in the ninth spot.
Oklahoma State earned the No. 1 rank and was followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 SMU, No. 7 Fresno State, No. 8 TCU, No. 9 UT Martin and No. 10 Delaware State.
The Skyhawks are coming off a busy week where they faced three ranked opponents in less than 72 hours during a road trip through Texas. UT Martin fell 16-4 at No. 6 SMU last Thursday before bouncing back for a 10-6 neutral-site triumph over then-No. 7 Delaware State on Friday. The Skyhawks then traveled to now-No. 8 TCU on Saturday and were defeated by a 15-3 margin.
UT Martin found the most success in horsemanship during its road trip, bringing home six victories. Keely Seiter and Katelyn Schultz each provided a pair of victories while Paige Benson garnered an MOP against Delaware State. Kate Davis' 73.0 scoring average was the best of any Skyhawk who competed in all three meets.
In fences, UT Martin dialed up five wins against the nationally ranked trio. Kelby Kane went 3-0 to extend her season record to 9-0 while also accounting for a team-high 82.3 scoring average. Haley Kane additionally notched an MOP in the event against Delaware State.
Tyler Anderson was unbeaten over the weekend in flat, going 2-0-1 against stiff competition. Sophia Sundem also performed extremely well in her collegiate debut, accumulating a team-best 75.0 scoring average as well as an MOP performance against Delaware State.
In reining, Brooke Bradley and Logan Putvinski both registered victories last week for the Skyhawks. Those two plus Kate Davis all tied for the top average score (69.3 points) on the squad over the weekend.
UT Martin returns to the arena later this month for a pair of home matchups at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. The Skyhawks will take on UC Davis on Friday, Feb. 11 before hosting current No. 1 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 12.
