MARTIN, Tenn. – The ascending University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad rounds out its nonconference slate with a home matchup against Crowley's Ridge on Monday, Dec. 19. Tipoff at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (7-5) are a perfect 6-0 inside the Elam Center in 2022-23 and with a win against the Pioneers, UT Martin would equal the program's most home wins to start a season in the NCAA Division I Era (since 1992). The 2002-03 and 2001-02 Skyhawk squads also began their seasons with seven straight wins. A victory against Crowley's Ridge would also tie the program's win total from last season.
UT Martin enters this contest on a three-game winning streak. Not only are the Skyhawks winning but they are doing so in dominant fashion. UT Martin has led for 119:02 out of 125 minutes during this hot stretch - holding an advantage for 95.2 percent of clock time during the last three contests.
The Skyhawks led by as many as 19 points while soaring to a 75-67 victory at Bowling Green on Saturday. The backcourt trio of Jordan Sears (18 points, five rebounds, team-highs of four assists and three steals), Desmond Williams (season-best 15 points off five 3-pointers) and KJ Simon (12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks) each scored in double figures for UT Martin.
This marks the Skyhawks' second all-time meeting against Crowley's Ridge, a NAIA program located in Paragould, Ark. UT Martin last hosted the Pioneers on New Year's Day in 2015, claiming an 84-61 victory.
Crowley's Ridge (3-10) is coming off a 90-72 home setback to Dillard on Saturday. Braxton Cousins accounted for a team-best 18 points while Bo Roberson hauled in his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds but the Pioneers shot 38.2 percent (29-of-76) - including a 5-for-20 performance from beyond the three-point arc.
Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) will broadcast the game live on ESPN+ and WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - plus a link to follow along with live stats - are located above.
