The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team continues its season-long six game road swing with a matchup in the Show Me State against Missouri Valley Conference powerhouse Missouri State on Saturday, Dec. 17. Tipoff from Great Southern Bank Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (4-6) have started out the road trip on a high note by winning two of the three matchups, including victories over Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt (66-52) and defending Summit League co-champion South Dakota (67-61).
In UT Martin's win over South Dakota, the team had four players score in double figures while sharing the ball at a high rate with a season-high 17 assists on the team's 23 made field goal attempts. The freshmen tandem of Sharnecce Currie-Jelks and Anaya Brown each had career-high performances in their young careers. Currie-Jelks tallied her second 20+ point outing of the season with a career-best 23 points while Brown notched her first double-double courtesy of career-highs in both points (10) and rebounds (11).
Preseason All-OVC performers Seygan Robins and Paige Pipkin also had big performances in the win over South Dakota. Robins knocked down five three-pointers on the way to 16 points while tallying four steals and three assists. Pipkin joined in the action by scoring 11 of her 13 points in the closing quarter to seal the team's victory.
Missouri State (3-4) enters the game looking to build off the team's recent 63-59 road victory at Big 12 member TCU last Friday. The Lady Bears have appeared in the NCAA Tournament 17 times in program history, including berths in the Sweet 16 in two of the last four seasons. This season's crew ranks 11th nationally in offensive rebounds per game with 17.1 while ranking second in the MVC with 42.3 total rebounds per game.
The Lady Bears feature four players averaging over 9.0 points per game while Aniya Thomas paces the team with 11.7 points and 4.5 assists per game. Isabelle Delarue also has a double-digit scoring average with 10.0 points per game.
Saturday's contest marks the second meeting between the two programs in series history. The last meeting occurred almost 50 years ago with UT Martin picking up a 52-44 neutral site victory back in 1973.
