
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS CONTINUES ROAD SWING WITH MATCHUP AT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team continues its season-long six-game road trip with a matchup against defending WNIT champs South Dakota State on Monday, Dec. 12. Tipoff from Frost Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (3-5) return to the court following an eight-day hiatus for finals following the team's decisive road win over SEC foe Vanderbilt by a final score of 66-54. In the contest, UT Martin had four players score in double figures, led by a game-high 19 points by graduate guard Paige Pipkin while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks (16), Seygan Robins (14) and Shae Littleford (14) also joined in the action.
After another strong performance, Currie-Jelks earned her second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honor. The freshman forward averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds against Murray State and Vanderbilt. Overall, the Skyhawks have claimed four consecutive OVC Freshman of the Week honors to start the season.
South Dakota State (6-4) is one of the top mid-major powers in the country while currently receiving votes in the national polls. The Jackrabbits won 29 games last season on their way to winning the WNIT title. Most recently, the squad picked up an 82-78 road win at No. 24 Kansas State on Saturday afternoon. SDSU features a pair of standouts averaging doiuble figures as Myah Selland leads the team with 15.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while Haleigh Timmer tosses in 10.6 points per night.
Monday's matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs in series history and just the second against a member of the Summit League.
