MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will make its 2022-23 debut on Thursday, Nov. 10 when playing host to defending Sun Belt champion Troy. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-0) open the season with a fresh roster which includes four of the team's top six returning scorers along with nine newcomers. Despite posting a 12-18 record last season while finishing sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, the Skyhawks have been tabbed to finish second in the annual OVC preseason predicted order of finish.
UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan enters his ranks 14th season at the helm of the Skyhawks while ranking third in OVC history with 252 career victories. During his tenure, the Skyhawks have won six regular season championships and four tournament crowns while earning nine postseason berths.
The Skyhawks feature three Preseason All-OVC recipients in guards Paige Pipkin, Shae Littleford and Seygan Robins. Pipkin was an All-OVC second team honoree last season after averaging 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while scoring in double figures 16 times. Littleford burst onto the scene in her debut season before ultimately being named to the OVC All-Newcomer squad after earning three OVC Freshman of the Week honors and averaging 11.0 points per game. Meanwhile Robins averaged 9.8 points and 2.8 assists in 19 games.
Troy (1-0) opened the season on Monday night with a 66-62 road victory at Samford. After winning 20+ games for the fourth straight season, the Trojans are returning just five players from last season's squad that saw Troy capture another Sun Belt Conference regular season title. Felmas Koranga ranks as the team's top returner after averaging 12.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while being tabbed as the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year.
Thursday's matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs since 1992 when both teams were Division II members of the Gulf South Conference. UT Martin holds a 10-6 advantage in the series while Troy won the last three matchups. The Skyhawks have held their own at home in previous series history, boasting a 7-1 mark.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (analyst) will have the call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - plus a link to follow along with live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
