WACO, Texas – For the eighth straight week to begin the 2022-23 season, the University of Tennessee at Martin is amongst the nation's best as the Skyhawks are 10th in this afternoon's National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings.
All 10 spots remained the same from last week's poll. SMU comes in at No. 1 and is followed by No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UC Davis and No. 10 UT Martin.
The Skyhawks have been idle since a Oct. 28-29 home weekend where they narrowly fell 10-9 to South Carolina before defeating Lynchburg by a 7-3 margin. UT Martin is 1-3 on the season with all three setbacks coming at the hands of nationally ranked opponents. The Skyhawks have also produced a pair of scrimmage victories ahead of their fall finale next Friday, Nov. 18 against South Dakota State at home.
In the Jumping Seat discipline, UT Martin has registered 16 individual wins and a pair of MOP's in fences as well as 16 victories and two more MOP's in flat. The Skyhawks also boast 16 combined head-to-head triumphs with four MOP's in the Western discipline, posting 10 wins and three MOP's in reining to go along with six victories and one MOP in horsemanship.
On an individual basis, UT Martin head coach Kim Leiter has overseen a plethora of individual accolades so far this fall. Three separate Skyhawks (Kate Davis, Sydney Hott, Logan Putvinski) have combined for five Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week honors while the trio of Julia Gilman, Hott and Davis have each nabbed ECAC Rider of the Month awards in 2022-23.
