MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks to stay perfect inside the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center when the Skyhawks meet the Prairie View A&M Panthers for the first time on the hardwood. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 live on ESPN+.
UT Martin (3-2) is fresh off one of its best defensive efforts of the season as the Skyhawks nearly took down Ole Miss before falling 72-68 on Friday. In that game, UT Martin held the Rebels to 38.9 percent shooting and a 5-of-19 effort (26.3 percent) from three-point range. The Skyhawks led for over 24 minutes in the contest but a 17-2 Rebel run in the second half proved to be the difference.
UT Martin's balanced scoring was on full display in the Ole Miss game as four Skyhawks compiled double figures in the points column. Parker Stewart paced UT Martin in scoring for the first time this season with 13 points while KK Curry (12 points, career-high four steals), Chris Nix (10 points, season-best nine rebounds) and Desmond Williams (10 points, team-high three assists) also had notable performances for the Skyhawks.
Although UT Martin has never faced Prairie View A&M, the Skyhawks have faced four different Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents since 2014-15, posting a 5-2 record in those contests.
This will be the Panthers' first road game of the 2022-23 campaign. Prairie View A&M enters the game with a 3-0 record after defeating Pac 12 member Washington State by a 70-59 margin on Tuesday. The Panthers never trailed and led by as many as 21 points, shooting 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range while limiting the Cougars to 32.6 percent shooting for the contest.
Will Douglas accounted for a game-high 26 points, team-best seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for Prairie View A&M while Jeremiah Gambrell added 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals against Washington State.
