MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will return to the hardwood of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Monday, Nov. 14 when playing host to regional rival and Sun Belt foe Arkansas State. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. on Pat Summitt Court while the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-1) opened the season last Thursday with a strong showing against Sun Belt preseason favorite Troy before ultimately seeing its comeback attempt run out of time, dropping the contest by a final score of 89-84. The matchup proved to be pretty even in a game which featured 13 lead changes and 10 ties.
UT Martin shot a blistering 56.4 percent from the field in the season opener while placing four players in double figures. Freshman Kenley McCarn exploded onto the scene in her first game in a Skyhawk uniform by scoring 31 points, ranking as the most points in program history for a debut performance. Another freshman also dazzled in her debut as Sharnecce Currie-Jelks recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Meanwhile, veteran guards Paige Pipkin and Seygan Robins chipped in 14 points each.
Arkansas State (0-1) enters the matchup having also narrowly dropped its season opener, falling to Louisiana Tech on the road by a 59-56 margin. The Red Wolves saw two players score in double figures with Izzy Higginbottom and Lauryn Pendleton tossing in 13 points each.
While the two programs have not met since 2018 after squaring off seven times between 2012-18, Monday's meeting marks the 15th matchup between the two regional foes. UT Martin holds a narrow 8-6 advantage in the all-time series with the Skyhawks pulling out a thrilling 97-91 overtime victory on Nov. 17, 2018 in the most recent meeting.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (analyst) will have the call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - plus a link to follow along with live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
