WACO, Texas – Only two spots flipped in the newest National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings as the University of Tennessee at Martin remained in the No. 10 slot.
The top four and bottom four spots in the poll remained the same from last week. TCU remains at No. 1 and is followed by No. 2 SMU, No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 4 Oklahoma State. Auburn moves into the fifth slot while Georgia slipped to No. 6. Completing the rankings are No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 Fresno State and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
UT Martin has been idle since its season-opening 9-1 victory over Dartmouth on Oct. 1. The Skyhawks were originally scheduled to travel to Felton, Del. for a pair of matchups on Oct. 7-8 but those meets were moved to this week because of flooding caused by Hurricane Ian.
In its lone competition this season, UT Martin displayed a dominant Jumping Seat squad. The Skyhawks won all five fences points (including the MOP accolade) and produced an average score of 81.4 points. UT Martin's flat lineup tallied four victories, one MOP honor and a 75.4 scoring average.
This week's meets will mark the season debut for the Skyhawks' Western discipline squad. Last season, UT Martin accounted for 24 wins, seven MOP's and a 69.0 regular season scoring average in horsemanship to go along with 26 victories, six MOP's and a 66.1 regular season scoring average in reining.
The Skyhawks will face off against the nation's top-ranked team for the fifth time in as many years on Thursday, Oct. 13, taking on No. 1 TCU. UT Martin will then take on Eastern College Athletic Conference rival Delaware State on Friday, Oct. 14.
