NO. 9 UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN STARTS SPRING SLATE WITH A TRIO OF MATCHUPS AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED OPPONENTS THIS WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad will be back in action for the first time in 76 days this week when the No. 9 ranked Skyhawks face three nationally ranked opponents in as many days in the Lone Star State.
UT Martin's spring schedule officially begins on Thursday, Jan. 27 at No. 6 SMU. The Skyhawks will remain in Dallas, Texas for a Friday, Jan. 28 matchup against No. 7 Delaware State before heading to Fort Worth for a meet against No. 10 TCU on Saturday, Jan. 29.
Overall, UT Martin has nine dates remaining in its regular season slate – including four home contests. The Skyhawks will host UC Davis (Feb. 11), current No. 1 Oklahoma State (Feb. 12), South Dakota State (March 11) and Minnesota-Crookston (March 12) at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion this spring. UT Martin will also travel to Miami (Ohio) for an exhibition on Feb. 18 before its final regular season road meet at current No. 5 Georgia on March 5.
The Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship is set for March 24-26 in Harrington, Del. For the first time ever, the NCEA Championships will be held at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla. as eight teams will qualify for the April 14-16 event.
The Skyhawks are coming off a fall season where they went 3-3 against stout competition. UT Martin posted victories against then-No. 3 SMU (9-6 on Oct. 2), South Dakota State (10-8 on Oct. 15) and Lynchburg (8-2 on Nov. 13). The Skyhawks also put up a fight but fell against then-No. 8 Baylor (13-6 on Sept. 24), Delaware State (13-7 on Oct. 1) and then-No. 4 Texas A&M (12-8 on Nov. 12).
UT Martin has found its most success in fences, where it has notched 17 head-to-head wins and four MOP's. Kelby Kane led five different Skyhawks who earned victories as she topped the squad in scoring average (81.3), wins (six) and MOP's (three).
In flat, UT Martin garnered 16 combined victories and four MOP's last fall. Kane (team-high 80.8 scoring average) and Julia Gilman (team-best five victories) shared the team lead with a pair of MOP's apiece.
Five separate Skyhawks have registered wins in reining in 2021-22 as freshman Kate Davis ranks first on the squad in scoring average (71.4), victories (four) and MOP's (three). UT Martin has combined for 10 wins and four MOP's as a team in the event.
The Skyhawks have added four wins and one MOP in horsemanship so far this season. Davis boasts a team-best 71.4 scoring average and one MOP while Keely Seiter owns a team-high two victories.
