HOME OPENER FOR UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL SET FOR TOMORROW AGAINST MIDDLE TENNESSEE

MARTIN, Tenn. – Winners of two straight matches, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team will play in front of the home crowd for the first time this season when it hosts the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Tuesday, Sept. 21. First serve from Skyhawk Fieldhouse is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Skyhawks (3-9) concluded their season-opening 12-match road swing with back-to-back victories at the Tiger Brawl tournament in Memphis over the weekend, sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) and Memphis (26-24, 25-18, 25-14).
UT Martin has won six of its last seven home openers dating back to 2013. In the all-time series between the Skyhawks and Middle Tennessee, UT Martin is 7-3 inside Skyhawk Fieldhouse although the Blue Raiders won the last matchup in four sets on Oct. 22, 2019. In that match, UT Martin posted a .253 attack percentage as Logan Wallick (18) and Karen Scanlon (15) combined for 33 of the Skyhawks' 60 kills.
Scanlon's 92 kills (2.09 per set) are the most on the UT Martin roster in 2021, closely followed by Addison Conley (91 kills, 2.17 per set). Haeleigh Paulino is coming off an all-tournament mention at Memphis over the weekend as she ranks seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference with 6.30 assists per set to go along with a team-best 12 service aces.
Defensively, Baillie Kearns ranks ninth in the OVC with 153 digs (3.64 per set). Olivia Saunders – who also earned an all-tournament nod at the Tiger Brawl alongside Paulino – has swatted 34 blocks top the Skyhawks while Zoe Merriweather's 0.86 blocks-per-set average lead the squad.
Middle Tennessee is 2-3 on the season and is coming off a split last Friday at a tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Competing for the first time since Aug. 28, the Blue Raiders fell in four sets to North Florida (26-24, 13-25, 14-25, 20-25) before bouncing back for a five-set triumph over Seton Hall (16-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 15-11).
Samira Lawson Body paces Middle Tennessee with 47 kills (2.61 per set) while Dasia Smith's .266 attack percentage and Taylor Ebert's 156 assists (7.80 per set) also lead the team offensively. Marley Banton and Michaela Wright shore up the Blue Raider defense with 3.55 digs per set and 0.80 blocks per set, respectively.
