MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin will make its second NCAA Golf Regional appearance as an NCAA Division I member at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. on May 17-19.
The Skyhawks are departing campus tomorrow before their practice round takes place with a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, May 16.
Round 1 action will take place on Monday as the Skyhawks will tee off on the 10th hole alongside Arkansas State and Campbell. Jacob Uehlein will start things off at 9:25 a.m. and will be followed by Ross Redmont (9:36), Tate Chumley (9:47), Nick Wolf (9:58) and Jack Story (10:09).
Designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, the Sagamore Club is a par-72 course that plays at 7,173 yards. This is believed to be the first time that UT Martin will play in the state of Indiana since the program transitioned into the Division I level in 1992.
This will be the fourth time that the Skyhawks have been represented at an NCAA Regional. Brendon Caballero appeared at the 2015 Chapel Hill (NC) Regional as an individual while UT Martin qualified as a team at the Franklin (Tenn.) Regional in 2016. Hunter Richardson then made an appearance as an individual at the 2017 College Grove (Tenn.) Regional.
Richardson holds the school record for lowest round (69 in both Round 1 at College Grove in 2017 and Round 1 at Franklin in 2016), lowest total score (213 at Franklin in 2016) and best finish (25th at Franklin in 2016) at an NCAA Regional. During their team appearance in 2016, the Skyhawks shot an 878 (+14) after individual rounds of 293-294-291.
Led by OVC Coach of the Year Austin Swafford, UT Martin sealed a spot in the postseason after a two-shot victory at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships held in Muscle Shoals, Ala. on April 25-27. It marked the Skyhawks' fifth win in seven tournaments during the 2020-21 campaign.
UT Martin leads the OVC in scoring average (286.8), paced by Wolf's 70.8 that ranks second in the league. Story's 72.0 ranks fourth while Chumley's 72.1 is the sixth-best stroke average in the league. Redmont (73.6) and Uehlein (74.1) also rank in the top-25 in the OVC's individual standings.
