MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin broke through for an Ohio Valley Conference victory against Jacksonville State, soaring past the Gamecocks by a 5-2 margin on an emotional day at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex.
Amelia Campbell, Mizuki Sakurai and Jule Streif were each recognized before the match as part of Senior Day ceremonies. Each of the seniors were sent out properly as UT Martin gelled for a convincing win over a Jacksonville State squad that came into the day ranking second in the OVC standings.

The Skyhawks started off with the early advantage, nabbing the doubles point. The No. 2 tandem of Jillian Niedzialowski and Ariadna Ondo claimed a 6-3 victory while Sina Albersmeier and Sakurai clinched the 1-0 lead after a 6-3 triumph at No. 3. Campbell and Streif were also in position for a win – leading 6-5 – at No. 1 before the match moved into singles play.
It was the visiting Gamecocks who gained the edge at the beginning of singles play, taking decisions at No. 2 and No. 4 to tilt the score in their favor at 2-1.
However, UT Martin showed no signs of panic, rising to the occasion to grind out the remaining four decisions. Sakurai evened the match at 2-all after a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 while Niedzialowski put the Skyhawks on the verge of a win thanks to a 7-6 (5), 6-4 triumph out of the No. 6 slot.
Aziza Aubin iced the team win following a gritty 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 come-from-behind win at No. 3. Moments later, it was fitting that the senior Campbell tacked on another victory for good measure – outlasting her opponent at No. 1 by a 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-4 margin.
UT Martin concludes the regular season next week with three road matches in the span of three days. The Skyhawks will pay a visit to OVC rivals Eastern Illinois (April 16) and SIUE (April 17) before a nonconference outing against Saint Louis on April 18.
