MARTIN, Tenn. – Returning home for the first time in three weeks is the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team, who hosts Austin Peay in the final matches of the 2020-21 season on Monday, March 29. The two sides will play twice with contests slated to begin at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
Monday will serve as Senior Day for both teams. Governor seniors Nina Korfhage, Brooke Moore, Chloe Stitt and Caroline Waite will be recognized before the match at noon while Skyhawk seniors Kenzie Hinshaw and Kayle Long will be honored prior to the nightcap.
Hinshaw has started in 101 out of her 103 career matches and is one of only three players in school history to register at least 3,000 assists and 100 service aces. The owner of 36 career double-doubles, she has also added 252 kills, a .278 hitting percentage, 865 digs and 85 blocks. The setter out of Fishers, Ind. is also a three-time Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.
Hailing from Tucson, Ariz. is Long, who transferred to UT Martin in 2019 from New Mexico. She has seen playing time in 18 matches as a Skyhawk, accumulating 50 digs and 22 assists. The best match of her career came last season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff when the defensive specialist tallied career-highs of 11 digs, eight assists and one service ace. She also garnered OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades last season.
UT Martin (5-9) will look to close out the 2020-21 campaign on a high note as the Skyhawks are 4-2 this season in home matches. Hinshaw has divvied out 197 assists (8.95 per set) and scooped 43 digs (1.95 per set) in six career matches against Austin Peay. Last season against the Governors, Logan Wallick (3.0 kills per set on a .291 attack percentage) and Addison Conley (27 kills, 2.7 per set) led the offense while Lucy Kaufman's 36 digs (4.0 per set) guided the defense.
This season, Wallick leads UT Martin with 141 kills (3.07 per set), which ranks 10th in the OVC. Karen Scanlon paces the Skyhawks in hitting percentage (.227) and service aces (11) while Dylan Mott (172 digs, 3.51 per set) and Olivia Lucia (27 blocks, 0.63 per set) top UT Martin defensively.
