
SKYHAWK TENNIS BEGINS QUICK TWO-MATCH ROAD TRIP WITH 6-1 SETBACK AT UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Amelia Campbell earned her first singles victory of the season today at UAB but the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team fell by a 6-1 margin at George Ward Park.
Hailing from London, England, Campbell defeated the Blazers' No. 1 player in Jana Hecking by scores of 6-2, 6-4. However, UAB was able to win its sixth consecutive match while improving to 8-5 on the season.
Aziza Aubin (3-6, 5-7) and Sina Albersmeier (4-6, 4-6) were locked in singles battles for UT Martin but were ultimately defeated at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Representing the Skyhawks at No. 5 was Mizuki Sakurai (5-7, 1-6) while Ariadna Ondo fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 and Jule Streif was defeated 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot.
In doubles play, UT Martin's No. 3 tandem of Albersmeier and Sakurai posted a solid 7-5 victory, besting the Blazer duo of Megan Bertrands and Annalisa Smith. The Skyhawks nearly came away with a win at No. 1 as Campbell and Streif competed throughout in a 6-4 loss. UAB was able to clinch the doubles point with that win in addition to a 6-1 decision at No. 2.
The Skyhawks wrap up an eight-match season-opening road trip tomorrow when they travel to in-state foe Middle Tennessee. First serve from the Adams Tennis Complex is scheduled for 12 p.m.
