
SKYHAWK TENNIS SECURES DOUBLES POINT BUT DROPS 6-1 DECISION AT SAMFORD

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad came out strong today at Samford, taking the doubles point to establish early momentum. However, the host Bulldogs recovered and claimed a 6-1 win at the Samford Tennis Center.
In doubles, the No. 3 tandem of Sina Albersmeier and Mizuki Sakurai posted their second win of the season together with a 6-2 triumph. The Skyhawks' No. 1 pair of Amelia Campbell and Jule Streif additionally generated their second victory of the season thanks to a thrilling 7-5 win that provided UT Martin with a 1-0 advantage. Aziza Aubin and Jillian Niedzialowski also partnered for the first time this season at No. 2, falling 6-1.
Streif nearly pulled out a singles victory at No. 2 but was defeated in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 1-0). Sakurai battled at No. 5 but ultimately came up just short (6-4, 6-4) while Albersmeier fell at No. 4 by a 6-4, 6-2 margin. At No. 6, Niedzialowski was defeated 6-3, 6-1 while Campbell (lost 6-1, 6-2) and Aubin (lost 6-3, 6-0) represented the Skyhawks at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
UT Martin continues its 12-match road swing to begin the 2020-21 campaign on Friday, Feb. 12 in a newly added neutral-site matchup against Central Arkansas. The match will take place at Kenlake State Resort Park in Hardin, Ky. at 12 p.m.
