MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of two back-to-back games for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team against in-state Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay will take place on Monday, Feb. 8 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff time is set for 6 p.m. (a change from a previously announced time of 8 p.m.).
The Governors are the last of the 11 OVC opponents to face the Skyhawks in 2020-21 as these two teams were originally scheduled to play on Jan. 14 before the game was postponed. This game marks the end of the longest homestand in UT Martin's Division I history (since 1992) as the Skyhawks have emerged victorious in three of the five contests so far.
This matchup pits two of the league's best second-chance squads as Austin Peay leads the OVC in offensive rebounding (12.4 per game) and offensive rebounding percentage (.360). Meanwhile, UT Martin tops the conference by hauling in 12.2 offensive rebounds per game in league play.
The Skyhawks (6-11, 4-9 OVC) are coming off a 66-64 triumph over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. Jaron Williams pumped in a game-high 20 points while Kenton Eskridge tallied 12 points and a game-best six assists for UT Martin, who equaled a season-low with just eight turnovers.
Williams has put up fantastic numbers during the Skyhawks' homestand, averaging 18.2 points per game while eclipsing the 20-point plateau on three separate occasions.
The Governors (11-7, 7-5 OVC) saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a narrow 75-74 overtime setback at Morehead State. OVC Preseason Player of the Year Terry Taylor delivered his 13th double-double of the season with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Taylor, who became Austin Peay's all-time leading scorer last Thursday, has averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds over six career games against UT Martin.
Chris Brinkley will have the call on both ESPN+ and locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, plus a link to follow along with live stats, can be found above.
