
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS TO HONOR SENIORS PRIOR TO CLOSING OUT HOME SCHEDULE AGAINST EKU ON SATURDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will close out the home portion of the 2020-21 season with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 20. Prior to the game's scheduled tipoff at 1 p.m., the Skyhawks will hold their Senior Day festivities. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (15-4, 14-2 OVC) close out the home portion of the regular season schedule looking to put a bow on a successful campaign in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. UT Martin is 8-1 at home this season while posting a 124-26 record in the Elam Center over the past 12 seasons – including a 90-12 mark against OVC foes.
UT Martin is coming off an impressive defensive performance against Morehead State on Thursday night. The Skyhawks limited the Eagles to just 39 points on the night – including four points in the first quarter – while holding the visitors to just 26.3 percent from the field. The contest marked the eighth time in program history that UT Martin had held an opponent below 40 points and the third time this season. The Skyhawks also limited EKU to 39 points back on Jan. 21.
The Skyhawks currently lead the OVC in several statistical categories during league play including scoring offense (70.5), scoring defense (56.3), scoring margin (+14.2), field goal percentage (.460), field goal percentage defense (.349), three-point field goal percentage (.368), assists (16.9) and assist/turnover ratio (1.2).
UT Martin will honor two of its seniors prior to Saturday's contest, recognizing the decorated tandem of Chelsey Perry and Maddie Waldrop. During their Skyhawk careers they have led the program to 79 victories, one regular season title – with another one within reach – while combining to tally 2,837 points, 1,490 rebounds and 299 blocks along with 79 victories over the past four seasons.
Eastern Kentucky (8-12, 7-9 OVC) is coming off one of its biggest road victories of the season, knocking off Southeast Missouri (82-72) on Thursday night. The Colonels are led by three-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Jayla Johnson who paces the team with 13.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Kendall Wingler (11.0 ppg) and Alice Recanati (9.3 ppg) rank as EKU's other top offensive threats.
Saturday's contest marks the 58th meeting between the two programs with Eastern Kentucky holding a 32-25 advantage in a series which dates back to 1974. UT Martin has dominated the series in recent history by winning 16 of the last 17 contests – including a 65-39 victory back on Jan. 21.
