DANBURY, Conn. – University of Tennessee at Martin senior Bailey Newlin has secured Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week accolades in horsemanship for all competitions ending on Feb. 14.
Newlin brings home an ECAC Rider of the Week honor for the first time in her collegiate career. She is the first Skyhawk to earn the league's top weekly accolade in horsemanship since her current teammate Devon Woods won on Oct. 15, 2019.
An Alamo, Calif. native, Newlin shined for UT Martin in its convincing 9-1 victory over Minnesota-Crookston on Feb. 12 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. She equaled her career-high score of 76 in horsemanship, defeating her opponent Adrianne Schaunaman by 3.5 points in the process. That was good enough for her first career MOP performance as she helped propel the Skyhawks to their first win of the season.
During the young 2020-21 campaign, Newlin has collected a pair of horsemanship wins in four tries, generating a 72.9 scoring average. She also earned a head-to-head win at No. 8 TCU on Jan. 28 with a 73.5-point effort.
UT Martin's next competition is scheduled for Friday, March 5 as it will head to Fenton, Del. for a matchup against Delaware State.
