2/16/2021 12:26:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MARTIN, Tenn. – The last homestand of the 2020-21 University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball campaign starts with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky. Tipoff time on Thursday, Feb. 18 is set for 8 p.m. (following the women's basketball game as the backend of a doubleheader).
The Skyhawks (7-13, 5-11 OVC) hold a 13-10 advantage all-time against the Colonels inside the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center but have not played Eastern Kentucky at home in over three years (Jan. 11, 2018). UT Martin will look to extend its home winning streak to three games after victories over Tennessee Tech (66-64) and Austin Peay (76-75) earlier this month.
Yesterday, Cameron Holden was awarded the OVC Newcomer of the Week honor for the first time in his brief Skyhawk career. The junior out of Forsyth, Ga. hauled in his fifth double-double of the season (all in conference play) last time out at Murray State, compiling team-highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds.
This marks the second regular season matchup of the season between UT Martin and the Colonels. Holden (20 points, 13 rebounds, career-best seven assists), Anthony Thomas (16 points) and Kenton Eskridge (10 points) all reached double figures in the scoring column on Jan. 21 in Richmond but Eastern Kentucky shot 60 percent (42-of-70) in a 113-73 win.
The Colonels (17-5, 11-4 OVC) have won three of the first four games during a season-long seven-game road trip, including an 83-72 decision at Tennessee Tech on Monday. Michael Moreno's 18 points paced a trio of double-digit scorers as Eastern Kentucky had 26 assists on 31 made field goals against the Golden Eagles.
Wendell Green, Jr. is one of the nation's top freshmen as he ranks 15th nationally in assists (5.3 per game) and ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring (16.5 points per game) during league play. He scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting in the matchup against the Skyhawks earlier this season.
Chris Brinkley will broadcast the contest live on both ESPN+ and locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Links for both productions can be found at the top of the webpage, in addition to a link to follow along with live stats.
