The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will continue its tough three-game road swing with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at Murray State on Saturday, Feb. 13. Tipoff from the CFSB Center is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (13-4, 12-2 OVC) return to action for their second game in less than 25 hours following a matchup at Austin Peay on Friday afternoon. UT Martin overcame a slow start and a season-low scoring output to record a 56-51 victory behind a stingy defensive effort, holding the Govs to just 30 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Racers are also playing on short rest having hosted Southeast Missouri in The Bank on Friday, posting an 81-79 victory.
UT Martin currently leads the OVC in several statistical categories during league play including scoring defense (56.9), scoring margin (+13.4), field goal percentage (46.5), field goal percentage defense (35.1), three-point field goal percentage (36.3) and assists (17.0).
Murray, Ky. native Maddie Waldrop is closing in on 1,000 career points at UT Martin as she enters Saturday's contest with 971 points. Waldrop has played well against her hometown team, averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game the last two seasons.
Reigning OVC Player of the Week Dasia Young posted another strong performance in the win against Austin Peay. Young has continued to step up in the absence of Chelsey Perry, averaging 15.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over the last five games – including 17 point and seven rebounds against the Govs on Friday afternoon.
Murray State (11-9, 8-7 OVC) has won four of its last five games. The Racers rank as the league's top scoring offense at 71.1 points per game after its first 80-point performance in league play on Friday afternoon. The squad is led by guard Macey Turley who ranks third in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg) and eighth in assists (3.2 apg). The Racers also boast the OVC's top freshman in Katelyn Young who averages 13.2 points per game and leads the league in rebounding (9.3 rpg).
Saturday's contest marks the 93rd meeting between the two longtime rivals in a series dating back to 1970 with UT Martin holding a sizable 57-35 advantage. The Skyhawks boast a five-game winning streak against the Racers – including a 69-53 win back on Jan. 16 – while winning 10 of the last 11 meetings.
